1. Janelle Monae – The Electric Lady: Janelle hasn’t made a bad record. The Electric Lady is a funky concept album that works on so many different levels. If you just wanted to groove to the music, that’s cool. If you wanted to dive deep into the concept, and try to find the connections between this and her other albums, that’s cool. If you wanted to marvel at the production, that’s cool. There’s so much going on with this album. No other artist is pushing R&B as forward as she is. And she does it with a nod to the past. Brilliant stuff.
