(written for the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry)
When we walk through a door, we are looking for a safe space
for smiles to be let in no matter
the status of the sun.
We are hoping for the power to play
in rooms without judgement, and be completely free
to have fun.
When we unlock the potential
of our mind,
we are hoping to find a limitless love, overflowing from
of negative thoughts,
to join in
the colorful collaboration of conversation.
When you open your door, remember that
some hands have never had a handle
some hands have been
denied the opportunity for shelter,
some of us have never wiped our feet
on a welcome mat.
So, please, make a home
for immovable imagination and open the door
to the boundless
energy of love and inclusion.
