2022 news …

As I patiently await the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show, I thought I’d update you on some poetic things …

FREE VERSE PRESS

It’s always been a dream of mine to publish books for other poets, so I created Free Verse Press to make that happen.

First up was Linda Joy Walder. Second: Jammie Huynh, whose manuscript won the first Free Verse Poetry Prize. Her book, “Out of Darkness,” will be out this month.

I’m also publishing an anthology of poems by local poets.

POETS IN SCHOOLS

I also created a Poets in Schools program to pay poets to do workshops. The poems from the workshops will be published in a book that will be given free to students and teachers.

The Poets in Schools program is made possible by the Academy of American Poets with funds from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

FREE VERSE, LLC

The program, Free Verse Press, and Free Verse Festival are all part of Free Verse, LLC.

I’m hoping to one day expand this work by hiring a team.

AN AGENCY!

More! I’m now represented by ADA Artist Management, a lovely agency out of New York City. They primarily work with opera artists. I’m looking forward to writing more operas as a librettist.

POET LAUREATE?

My term as poet laureate ends in June. I’ve had the title for six years, and it’s been the joy of my life to serve you, Charleston. An application will be available for anyone interested in the position. Soon …

NEW POEMS!

Titles of new poems: “Store-bought Buddha,” “The Creepy Crawlies,” “Have Mercy,” “The Gospel,” “Earthquake Dance,” etc. etc.

You’ll hear them all soon?

THANK YOU.

Thanks for reading! I truly appreciate all of your support.

P.S. please come to one of the open mic nights!
